Chaitanyapur High School in Panskura has come under scrutiny following discrepancies in its midday meal records. During an inspection by the Block Development Officer (BDO), it was discovered that the school had falsely reported meals for 47 students on a day when only two students were present. The BDO’s investigation further revealed that no meals had been prepared for several days, contradicting the official records submitted by the school.
The midday meal program is part of a government initiative aimed at providing nutritional meals to students. According to reports, the school’s attendance records for the meal program did not match the actual number of students present on the day of inspection. The BDO’s findings showed that the school had been reporting inflated figures, while no cooking had been done due to the absence of the cook and other responsible staff members.
In response to the findings, the school administration clarified that the discrepancy occurred due to unforeseen circumstances. The headmaster explained that bad weather conditions had led to the cook’s absence, and the teacher in charge of overseeing the midday meal program was also unavailable. The school officials acknowledged that the meal records had not been updated to reflect the actual situation, but assured that this issue would be addressed. The headmaster assured the BDO in writing that such errors would be prevented in the future, and steps would be taken to ensure accurate reporting of both attendance and meal preparation moving forward.
